Rob Day

Rob Day is a Partner with Black Coral Capital, based in Boston. Rob was previously a senior investment team member with @Ventures, an early stage cleantech venture capital firm. Earlier, Rob was an investor with Expansion Capital Partners, a growth stage cleantech venture capital firm.
 
Formerly a consultant with Bain & Company, Rob has worked with companies and evaluated private equity transactions in the energy/ utilities, telecom, IT, medical/pharmaceutical, and retail industries. Earlier in his career, Rob was a member of the World Resources Institute's Sustainable Enterprise Program, where he developed partnerships with companies across a wide range of industries to develop new business opportunities with economic, environmental and social benefits.
 
Rob was also a co-founder of the Renewable Energy Business Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, assistance and networking opportunities to cleantech entrepreneurs and angel investors, with 15 regional chapters nationwide and several thousand network members. He also authors the website Cleantech Investing, which appears on GreenTechMedia.com. Rob received his MBA at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University), and his BA at Swarthmore College.
 

Andrew Friendly

Andrew is a Principal at Advanced Technology Ventures, where he focuses on investments in clean technology companies in the firm's Waltham, MA office.  He represents the firm on the boards of AltaRock Energy and Solar Junction, and is an observer on the boards of Rive Technology and Wakonda Technologies.

Andrew co-leads the Renewable Energy Business Network, and also co-leads the New England Clean Energy Council's Clean Energy Fellowship Program (www.necec.org).

Previously, Andrew was a director at Idealab in Pasadena, CA, where he evaluated energy and clean technologies for possible investment and company creation.  He focused on various areas including solar PV and thermal, fuel cells, hydrogen generation, flywheels, small-scale wind, advanced batteries, and new transportation concepts.  He played an active role with Idealab companies, serving on Boards, assisting with strategy, developing partner and customer relationships, and securing venture capital.   

Prior to Idealab, Andrew was a Partner at Clean Edge, a strategic consulting practice for the cleantech sector and senior manager of Business Development & Strategy at Zambeel, Inc.  Andrew also spent five years at The White House in a variety of positions including Personal Aide to President Clinton and Senior Advisor to the Special Envoy for the Americas where he worked with Congress to design trade legislation and assisted U.S. companies in gaining access to Latin American markets.

Andrew holds an M.B.A. from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.A. from Middlebury College.

 

Dhiraj Malkani

Dhiraj is a Principal at RockPort Capital Partners. He began his career at Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies as a Senior Product Engineer developing next-Generation optical components for Telecommunications. He received several U.S. patents for his inventions in MEMS technology before transitioning from pure engineering to evaluating early-stage photonics and life-science companies for Boston University’s Photonics Center business incubator program. Prior to joining RockPort he was a summer associate in Deutsche Bank’s Technology Investment Banking division. At Rockport, Dhiraj is an active member of the screening and diligence teams and has worked on multiple transactions in solar energy, transportation, advanced materials, energy storage, smart grid, water and wind technologies. Dhiraj is a graduate of the University of Mumbai with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He earned an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. Dhiraj's other passions and pursuits include:
